Mend the Burnt Bridges

Long ago in unmemorable times,
I once knew a face;
as time have elapsed, as time always does,
now, I do not have a trace.

Who's the creature before me?
She's looking at me in the eyes and I do not have a clue,
she keeps talking,
yet doesn't help the enigma I once knew.

Who IS she? I cannot bluntly ask her!
I give in and I stutter,
in the hope that all she's up to is a friendly 'Hi'
cause, I'm on the verge of saying goodbye.

And all those memories on the ridges,
forcing me to mend burnt bridges;
having it all on the rear view,
I'm heads over heels to remember the enigma I once knew.
